Proso Millet has so many names: Its scientific name, Panicum miliaceum, broomcorn millet, common, hog millet, white millet, and Kashfi millet. It has archeological evidence of being the crop which was first domesticated before 10,000 BCE in Northern China. The crop is grown in other countries like China, Nepal, the United States of India, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus. Some varieties produce grain within less than 70 days of planting. It is a monocot plant and a part of the millet and sub-grass family. America countries grow it typically to feed their livestock but it can also be used to convert starch to ethanol.
The bran of Proso Millet contains essential nutrients that are important in a healthy diet and is also an excellent source of fiber. It is absolutely gluten-free and is considered a good source of carbohydrates and proteins. It contains a good quantity of fatty acids and niacin or Vitamin B3.
