As compared to a same sized apple, the pear packs a slightly more amount of calories. (135 against 115 for a mid-sized one). Including a medium-sized high-quality organic pear in a meal or as an in-between snack helps satiate the hunger and provides up to 12 percent of the daily required doses of vitamin C, vitamin K and about half as much of potassium, magnesium, and folates.
A classic French dessert – poached pears in red wine: Take about 4 or 5 pears and peel and remove the central core. You can order organic pear online and use them in this recipe. Mix ¾ cup sugar, 2 cups wine, 1 spoon vanilla essence, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and about half liter water. Mix it well and bring to a boil. Insert the cleaned pears already placed in the water and let them boil for about 10 minutes on each side till well cooked and easily poked by a fork. Remove the pears with a pair of tongs and let dry on a towel. Bring the sauce to a boil again and pour over the pears arranged in a shallow dish as per your preference. Serve semi-hot.
