Asafoetida-Hing Asafoetida or Hing is the dried latex or oleoresin obtained from the taproot of plant Ferula. It is also known as stinking gum or devil's dung!! Funny? Though it is native to Iran and the Middle East, it has found a unique niche in Indian spicy food recipes. The purest latex is very strong and pungent and very difficult to break, so it is compounded with a small amount of wheat or rice flour is added in it. Many indigenous Indian recipes lack that spicy punch if they are not seasoned with organic asafoetida.
Among its other uses, along Texas-Mexico border, natural organic asafoetida is used as scent baits for catfish and pike. If you are a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, just go with a pinch or two of natural and pure organic asafoetida to reap the tremendous health benefits that come with it. Organic asafoetida contains about 40-60% resin, 25% gum, and 10-17% volatile oil which are responsible for all medicinal properties. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the topical application of a paste of asafoetida in coconut oil relieves the pain. A pinch of asafoetida in a cotton ball placed on the affected tooth can relieve toothache. Also, hot water extract is helpful antispasmodic, diuretic, and vermifuge. Make sure that you add only a small quantity of pure and natural organic asafoetida to your recipes as excessive amounts may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration.
